Welcome to Beta Pilates

“The teachers are all so wonderful, knowledgeable and helpful – you always feel you’ve improved each time you leave Beta Pilates.” – K.S. of Abington

Your certified instructors at Beta Pilates are rigorously trained for over 600 hours in the classical tradition of the Pilates method of body conditioning. We are committed to continuing our education and study with some of the best Pilates instructors in the world at annual conferences, seminars, and private lessons. We maintain a consistence practice, not only for our own personal development, but to cultivate a deeper understanding of the method through which we can infuse your workouts with new insights.

Dedicated to teaching the principles of the Pilates method (concentration, control, centering, breathing, precision and flow of movement), your instructors at Beta Pilates are devoted to preserving not only the exercises of Joseph Pilates, but the philosophy of his life’s work as well.

Your instructors are passionate about Pilates! We are enthusiastic people dedicated to your success and your ability to transfer what you have accomplished at Beta Pilates into your daily lives.

Beth Clarke (Owner/Instructor) began her classical Pilates training in 2001 and was certified as an instructor in 2004 through a program in Philadelphia requiring 600 hours of apprenticeship. She is the director of the award-winning, top-selling “Classical Pilates Technique” video series, featuring Bob Liekens, Alycea Ungaro and Peter Fiasca. She nevertheless considers herself a student, and continues her Pilates training with regular lessons in New York City with Daniel Lyon, author of “The Complete Book of Pilates for Men”, and by attending continuing education seminars across the country.

A former dancer and choreographer, Beth worked for and performed with several modern dance companies in New York City and on tour in the Northeast. She is also a visual artist, and her photomosaics have been shown in over 40 exhibitions throughout the United States and Italy. Beth’s artwork was published in “Rhode Island Women Speak: an Anthology of Authors and Artists,” and her photography graces the pages of the Beta Pilates and Classical Pilates Inc. websites.

Cheryl Cole (Instructor) was a professional ballet dancer who performed with, among others, the Boston Ballet, Louisville Ballet and Cincinnati Ballet. After fracturing her fibula in 2000, she began Pilates via physical therapy with Jacqui Haas of Cincinnati. Unable to dance for two months, Cheryl trained in Pilates, continuing her practice after she had returned to the stage. When considering what to do upon her retirement from ballet, she decided to become a Pilates instructor, because she wanted to give people more strength and mobility, and she loved the technique and creativity of the Pilates method.

After moving to California in 2005, Cheryl began her Power Pilates training program with Shari Berkowitz at the Vertical Workshop in Beverly Hills, and continued to study with her and Carrie Macy until her certification in 2006. Cheryl continues to study with Bob Liekens and Susan Moran-Perich of Power Pilates in New York City.
